Olympus Has Fallen

This weekend, the Mister gently reminded me that I had chosen last week's movie, "the one with all the old people" as he referred to it.  This was his weekend to choose and I could tell he knew exactly which one that he wanted to see.  I had a sneaking suspicion Safe Haven was not on his list of possibilities.

What a shocker that this would be the Mister's pick!

Olympus Has Fallen is an "action thriller."  I do not use those words lightly. This film is an edge-of-your-seat-nail-biter flick.
The story revolves around the White House being overtaken by the most dangerous terrorist in the world.

Rick Yune does an outstanding job playing the brains behind the terrorist attack and the captor in charge.  I'll be having nightmares about this guy for the next 3 years.

The President, Vice President, and Madame Secretary are among the hostages taken into the bunker and held captive.

Aaron Eckhardt makes a great, courageous POTUS.  I'd vote for this guy any time.

Morgan Freeman gives his usual magnetic performance as the Speaker of the House and accepts the title of President while the POTUS is "tied up." Along with the title, the stress of making the delicate life-saving decisions to end the disastrous situation were so beautifully seen in all of his facial expressions.

Angela Bassett does a brilliant job as the calm, thoughtful Director of the Secret Service.  If I was in a plane going down, I would want to sit next to her.

And last but certainly not least...
Our Hero

Gerard Butler plays Mike Banning, a disgraced ex-Secret Service agent to the POTUS.  Banning miraculously sneaks into the White House and gains access to the POTUS' satellite ear phone which enables him to communicate with the acting POTUS and Director of the Secret Service.  He is a "team of one" and all hope rests on his shoulders to  take down the terrorists and save the USA.
I could tell you how the movie ends - but then I'd have to kill you.

This movie is chock full of car bombs, blood, airplane attacks, machine guns, judo, more blood, broken necks, knives, helicopters, a lot more blood, and detonating explosions.  It is an extremely violent film.  A lot of it was unbelievable and far-fetched. But the thing that I can't take away from this film is the fact that it is sheer entertainment.

When the Mister asked me what I thought as we walked out of the theatre, I replied "it was pleasant," the same answer he gave me  last week, when I asked him about my movie pick.
But secretly, I loved it.

P.S. Dear Friends... I had to add that awful "word verification" thing to my comment section.  At first, I didn't mind getting spam comments because I would take all the comments I could get.  But now they have included words that are not acceptable so that's why I asked the Mister to put it on for me.  Hopefully, he did it correctly.  If not, please let me know and I will have to hold dinner from him for a week or call George Clooney and see if he's available yet.

Have a great Monday!
