A Hot Fudge Hodgepodge

Good morning, dear readers.  I hope that you are having a good week.  All is good around here.  It is time for Hodgepodge.

1.  Are you comfortable with silence?  If you're home alone, do you like silence or do you need regular background noise?  Do you seek out times and places to be silent?  What's your favorite place to find silence/be silent?

I'm not big on silence.  When I am home alone, I usually either have the TV on or my Sonos.

My favorite place to be quiet is in church for two reasons.  I like to pray and I don't want to get in trouble.

2.  October 28th is National Chocolate Day.  Can't let that go by without a mention now, can we?  Will you celebrate?  Let's say you can have one of the following right this minute... a cup of hot chocolate, a strawberry dipped in chocolate, a bowl of plain chocolate ice cream or a slice of chocolate pie... what's your pleasure?

I love chocolate, but none of those desserts make my boat float like a hot fudge brownie sundae.  Sista and I have made a study of it.  It's all about the temperature and consistency.  I love a fudgey, very warm brownie filled with salty nuts, topped with a very generous scoop or three of real vanilla ice cream, and smothered in ooey gooey hot fudge.

I hate when I make myself drool.

3.  How do you feel about blue jeans?  Favorite in the world to wear or nope, don't own a single pair?  How often do you wear blue jeans in a typical week?  Do you own a blue jean jacket?

When I started wearing jeans in my tweens, I thought they were the most uncomfortable things in the world.  But I knew you had to pay a price to be cool.  Years later, a genius came along, and I don't use that term lightly, and paired denim with spandex.  Hallelujah!!  Now jeans were finally comfortable!

My favorite jeans are from Talbots and JJill.  I wear them whenever I don't have leggings or pajama bottoms on.

4.  Are you superstitious?  If so, in what way?

I do not consider myself a superstitious person, but I do touch the outside of the plane as I am boarding.  It all started in high school when I was traveling to Louisiana with my buddy Mary H. who told me she does it for good luck.

This was the only picture that I could find of me boarding our private jet.

5.  If you had to come up with a costume using only things you have on hand right now, what could you come up with?

I would pop into my plethora of ponchos and choose one and then I would place my fitbit on my ankle and call myself Martha Stewart circa 2005.

6.  What scares you a little?  What do you do when you feel scared?

When the Mister is away on business, every creak from our very old house sends me into orbit.  My remedy is another bottle of chardonnay and half of a bottle of Tylenol PM.

7.  Perhaps today will be the day I ________________________.

... will invest in a good looking work out wardrobe.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Yesterday, I received this text from my #1.   Not only have I heard the song, I know every word thanks to all the DJs who like to play it every ten minutes.

Don't get me wrong - I'm a big fan of Adele's.  I think she has got a rich, fabulous voice.  I like a lot of her music.  Just not this song. To me, Hello is depressing and borderline whiny. So I must say goodbye to Hello, but I am looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.

Now that I got that off my chest, I can go out and save the world.

Until next time...

  1. I hate being alone when Mr. C. out of town. Not the same without a 124 pound German Shepherd to keep me company. Always get a kick out of your post and love those doggie pics! Can you train them to be guard dogs ;-)

  2. I like silence when I'm working but not when I'm cooking. My biggest fear lately is the big birch will come crashing through the roof whenever it storms. I guess I need a life!

  3. You have a great sense of humor; laughed out loud when I read the Martha Stewart comment. Sherri

  4. Yes, the spandex was a great invention! How on earth did we wear the old fashioned denim? Love your Halloween costume...nice use of the Fitbit. ;)

  6. You are a hoot!!! Yes to celebrating chocolate day today--thanks for the tip. I'm the same way when my husband travels...I just bought a pretty nightlight from my friend grayc glass and I think that will help. :)

  7. You definitely win the "Most Creative Costume" Award...hand's down! Love it! I so appreciate your sense of humor, Katie...keep it coming!

  8. I'm so glad to know you like salty nuts in your hot fudge brownie. Salty and sweet . . . Mmm! Makes the spandex in the jeans even more appreciated!

  9. Oh my goodness your post is delicious and I am not only talking about that hot fudge on the ice cream! Totally LOVE your Martha Stewart costume and girl, if you can find those awesome work out clothes, lead me to it! I am feeling a little grrrrr coming on!

  10. I know it's almost sacrilege to say it, but I feel the same way about the new Adele song. I love her voice, she has amazing talent, but this song is a bit too much of a downer for me. I love a good sad song now and then, but I think her voice can spiral the sad too deep for me. I wish I'd put a brownie on the list. My favorite too, and you're the second one to mention it today. Perhaps I'll celebrate with one today : )

  11. My secret shame, The Matty In the Morning Radio Show, played a mash-up of Adele's Hello and Lionel Richie's Hello that had me giggling like a schoolgirl.

  12. I love a turtle sundae - same as a brownie hot fudge sundae but with the addition of caramel sauce and salted pecans on top - heaven. My mom's chocolate cream pie with whipped cream and crushed walnuts is right up there too. This post has made me hungry; I am trying not to open the chocolate Halloween candy I bought.

  13. I am not a fan of quiet. If you knew me in person, you would know why as I talk...a lot!! It drives my kids crazy, so it cannot be too bad, right? The woman in the leopard getup it just wrong!! I totally lost my train of thought after I saw that. I have to have some noise in the house if I am by myself...usually the television with a movie on or the Martha Stewart channel, otherwise, I would require a lifetime supply of lithium. I deal with anxiety, so having some noise going in the background keeps me from thinking too much.

  14. DD4 loves Adele. I like some of her music but, to me, when she hits a high part, it sounds more like screaming than singing. I hate it when you make me drool too. LOL Enjoyed your answers!

    1. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I thought I was the only person who felt that way. Our spin instructor plays too much Adele remixes, especially the Bond movie song where she hits that screaming note and my ears actually hurt. I tried listening to Hello and lasted all of 30 seconds. Boring.

  15. Thanks for the chuckles! How do you find all the perfect pictures?!!? They make me smile!

  16. Love your fun and amusing answers. I'm taking your word on the song. I've only ever heard one other Adele song.

You're right. You definitely need new workout clothes. And, when you get them, judging from that pic, maybe you should actually work out! :-) your pics were great.

  17. Nice jet. I like your purse and shoes too. And a brownie sundae sounds fabulous, but no nuts in my brownie, k?

  18. Katie, growing up in a family with 5 brothers, sometimes I need total silence, and I cannot stand any yelling.
I love background music on weekends for some reason . I just had some M & M chocolate covered peanuts. I could easily grow addicted to them! Not sure if nice workout clothes would spur me on to workout , I walk though! Halloween Costumes, I am a complete loser at this! I can brag though that not much scares me, really! Only if I were a bag lady one day......... am a bit envious of you and your private plane!

  19. Katie, Oh My Goodness, once-again you had me laughing:) Talbot's jeans are definitely the bomb (isn't that what 'the kids' say:)...Women's Petite for me because even at 5'5" height 'Regulars' are far too long now (the average woman seems to be taller these days!) Not technically a superstition, but your 'flying' ritual struck a chord with me... as I must say a silent Hail Mary upon lift-off and descent...otherwise we will most-certainly all die in a fiery-crash;) Your fondness for ponchos is giving me incentive to reconsider an article of clothing I haven't worn since puka-shells were popular. And last-night I was mentioning to the Hubs that I needed a Fitbit (he asked me whether it was to record my LACK of exercise;)

  20. Wait....you mean today is National Chocolate Day?!?! How did I not know this? And here I am with no chocolate in the house....hmmmm, maybe a trip to the DQ is in order after supper.

Oh yeah, I own a lot of jeans, all with the miracle spandex! I'm happy to say that I've had to get rid of several pair lately after losing about 20 pounds this year (yay!).....and the jeans I have on now are actually too big! I also have more jean jackets than a sane person should own....what can I say? I love them!

I don't mind silence when I'm alone, in the morning I turn on the TV but mute the sound....until I get wide awake. I'm with you on the hearing all kind of sounds when the hubs is gone. In fact, the other day I was way back in the house in my bathroom and heard the driveway gates open....but when I went in the den he was no where to be found and the gates were still closed! The gates make a very distinctive sound (they need to be replaced as they are dragging on the pavement) so I know that sound....weird!

If I ever decide to exercise regularly I'm gonna see if I can find that leopard number....that would get me some attention in the neighborhood walking around!

  22. I to love a good gooey hot fudge brownie...ice cream on the side. I have a fit bit and need to use it more! oops. I like the Halloween costume idea. Thanks. I do like some silence in the day...as tv chatter just becomes...well, chatter. I loved to spend time in the cathedral across the street from my school in France. I could just sit and think/pray/rest. Not bad for a Presby ha.I love many of Adele's songs. I have not listened to the new one. I live in my own quiet world. ha. Sheila

  23. You are just soooo funny! I see that you live in McKinney, Texas. We go through there every time we go to our daughter's in OKC. I will have to arrange us meeting up at some point so I can actually laugh with you. You are just soo funny and I always chuckle when I read your posts.

  24. My goodness, don't you have marvelous legs!!! That photo of "you" entering your private jet should be enlarged to mural size just so your hubby can look at those gams!
I would give anything to find comfortable jeans. Talbot petite jeans are just too long for me. Woe be the woman who can't find a single pair of jeans to fit. I'm all for leggings and pajama pants!
As of today, I am 59 years old. Amazingly, for noise, three days a week I listen to Sesame Street, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Peg + Cat (truly hysterical!), along with other PBS programming. My granddaughter just can't get enough of those shows! Please don't tell her mother that I have the television on!!!!!

    1. Hi Lisa... That picture of "me" is so good I could have randomly found it on the Internet, if I didn't know better. I get petite jeans - they are a little on the long side but I don't care at this point. Your mornings remind me of so many years ago listening to Barney. Have a great weekend!
