Katie's Q & A

Hello, dear friends.

I just spotted a flake.

Yes, it is snowing in Dallas.

My anxiety is kicking in.

Same old same old around here.  The Mister and I went to two Open Houses yesterday.  We never made it into either one of them.  The first was filled with people sans masks, and the second one was canceled.

Today, I linked up for the first time with Sunday Stealing. Bev draws up the questions, and any blogger can answer them. On this post, any reader can answer them too.  Feel free to leave them in the comments.

1. What are your plans for January?

I plan on continuing my search for our dream home.

And not get divorced in the process.

2. What do you want to see happen in 2021?

And on a personal level, I would like to spend some time when it's safe in person and maskless with these two crazy kids.

3.  What would you give a 5-star rating?

I am almost finished with this one.
Without a doubt, it is one of the best memoirs I have ever read.

4. Do you have writing goals for 2021?

The only goals I have are to improve my biceps as well as hone my hermit skills.

5. How do you feel about memoirs?

Please refer to question 3.

6. If you could join any musical group, who would you choose?

I would like to be referred to as Preppy Spice.

7. What are your favorite genres across all media?

I admit it.
I love Reality TV.
This show is so darling.

The Mister and I are really enjoying this thriller.

8. What candle scents are your favorite?

I have a lot of favorites.
Since coffee and bacon are some of my favorite aromas, I may give these a whirl.
Not to worry, Annie, I'll order a double order of the bacon.

9. How well can you mimic other accents or voices?

I was a theater major in college.
My middle name is accents.

My two favorite victims of my mimicry.

10. What books are on your TBR list in 2021?

One of my favorite authors.

11. When do you decide it’s time to upgrade/buy something new?

This guy is the King of Replacements and Upgrades in our house.
Allow me to present Exhibit A.

Remember when the Mister wanted this air fryer/toaster oven the Christmas before last?  He used it all the time and sang its praises.  It worked beautifully and still does.
It now resides in #2's kitchen.

The Mister's wandering eye spied this little number and decided he couldn't live without it.

That wandering eye of the Mister's better stick to appliances and not to wives.

By the way, this was the Mister's lunch today.  He baked the bread and made this fried baloney (KTG's fave!)  egg white, and avocado sandwich in his new toy oven.
The Mister considers the chips the garnish.

12. What is your favorite color?

Lisa Mende Design

I will quote my friend Annie's mother...
I love every color as long as it's blue.

13. Who understands you the best?

Let me put it this way...
He understands me about as much as I understand him

14. Do you write letters?

No, but I try to keep up with my thank you notes.
And I always dress for the task.

15. How do you keep going when times are hard?

And if that doesn't work,
try this.

Until next time...

Our first cover girl is Gabbi.
Her very proud grandmother, Diane, sent in this darling pic.

Gabbi was adopted from North American Shar-Pei Rescue when she was surrendered by her family. The original family adopted her as a puppy and decided to sell their home and travel the country in a motor home. They felt she would not be happy with this lifestyle, so we were able to adopt her five years ago. She demonstrated amazing resilience to adapt to her new home and now is the queen of our house as she should be. We love her so much!

If you have a cute dog, email me a picture with a short bio, and I would be honored to include your little furbaby on my blog.

  3. I loved this post. I ordered Widowish because, well, I'm a widow! I became a widow at the age of 48 in 2012. I remarried 5 years ago and left Texas for the mountains of New Mexico! Happy New Year!!

  5. I just put the Fortunate Ones on hold at my library and am starting Widowish tonight! Looking forward to both. The Daughters of Erietown was one of my top 10 reads for 2020!

  8. No masks at the open house? What? I rarely see people without masks anymore! Thanks for all the recommendations. I'm looking forward to the fortunate ones too.

  9. Fabulous post, Katie! I love how you sneaked (snuck?) your picture in with the Spice Girls! I hope you find that perfect house soon. :) -Jenn

  10. Hoping your house search leads you to the perfect home. Loved this post. I do want to say I hope the Mr. didn’t spend $600 on the air fryer. I clicked on it because I’m in the market, but that’s a little steep for me. Idea for blog post - let’s hear about the your husbands career. I assume he was in the food industry in Boston, my favorite city to visit.

  11. I had to chuckle because the first air fryer/toaster/etc. is now sitting on my counter. I hate it because it so big, but Hubs had to have it. Maybe I should show him the second one since it is smaller. I just wanted a small toaster oven. Argh... I hope you will find the perfect home soon. It is out there with lots of blue. I think the lady with her head stuck in the sand is me now. I am grateful for my cave, aka home. Thanks for the lightening of mood.

  12. I feel the exact same way about blue! I love it in all it's hues.

  13. I’m becoming a fan of blue in all shades since moving to Florida. I’m currently on the hunt for blue wine glasses. Not something I need, necessarily, but you know how it goes. Pretty dishes and glasses are my downfall.

  14. Thank you so much for the smiles today! I’m so sorry about the open houses! You would make the perfect preppy spice! I love it!

  15. Parts of Texas must be experiencing a cold spell - Austin received 4 inches of snow yesterday.
The air fryer/toaster oven looks interesting - but no thank you to (big) appliances on my counter.
Good luck house hunting - the perfect one will show up - in the meantime enjoy the freedom from the responsibility of owning and decorating a house.

  16. Your pictures make me laugh every time!! Good luck house hunting! I must agree with Paige. The air fryer/toaster oven looks great but I hate appliances on the counter. My hubby does keep the Keurig on the counter. I'm not going to fight that battle! I have a smaller air fryer which I love and it "lives" on the bottom shelf of the pantry :-)

  17. Katie, you need to look up 2215 Forest Park Blvd. Fort Worth 76110
I use to live near this home and this is a wonderful neighborhood.

    1. I agree that is a darling house....but I’d on a very busy street. My sister lives around the corner. We looked in Berkley and you are correct it is the perfect neighborhood for Katie.

    2. Janey, I agree Forest Park can be busy. But at least the driveway is in the side. We lived on Huntington until July. Miss the neighborhood but love being near my only grandchild!

  18. Awww you remembered! I appreciate that which is "frowned upon" as well as "haute cuisine." As far as your DREAM HOUSE is concerned I only wish I had kept my RE license up to date ~ you and the Mister would already be sitting pretty poolside each with your own pool boy/girl!

  19. Such a fun post, Katie. Preppy Spice...perfect!

  20. Preppy Spice....hilarious! My #2 still has all five of the Spice Girls fashion dolls. I also saved all her Spice Girls club notes from 2000, lol (gave them to her when we downsized). Lupin looks good, and hoping my Mr wants to watch it.

  21. Well, cannot get down to Dallas, but I would still love to meet you and have lunch. Maybe after the hot mess has subsided. In the Mister's defense, the Breville Oven is awesome. I work part-time at Sur la Table, and we cannot keep them in stock. One of our chef's prepared her entire Thanksgiving meal in one of them for Thanksgiving 2019. It is impressive. All this to say, one of your girls will get a great oven when he moves on to bigger and better. :-)

  22. Love your blog, I give it a five star rating! Fun to read your answers. I was a big fan of Housewives...my guilty pleasure...but got tired of all of the scripted fighting. Felt like I was watching Jerry Springer. I have to confess I secretly watch 90 Day Fiancé. Can’t believe people actually team up with someone from a different culture and more times than not, from a slum, and expect to fall in love! No plans for Jan. Waiting for my second vaccine at the end of the month...then find me if you can! I also adore blue and love the smell of lavender. Reading a book I have been waiting for. Of the First Class....by Tim Madigan
Okay enough out of me. Janey

  24. Oh, my made me laugh big time. I'm ready for you to find your dream home so you can give us all a tour. I do love bacon but just not sure about the smell. I'll have to think on that one. :o)) Have a great week!

  26. Great post, saved lots of books at library thanks. Lazy afternoon checking out LOVE ON THE SPECTRUM, oh my, sweet and so far so good. Widowish up my alley, reviews very hood, better be ready for a cry. Happy 2021 thx for all the entertainment.

  27. 1.January is always a sluggish month for me....my new year begins with Lunar NY so I can ease into it. (smile)
    2. I want to learn how to cook my veggies better and eat more healthy meals. Thus, I've been looking into perhaps getting this item to help me. It has programmed recipes in it for us non-creative types.

    3. I'd give a 5 star rating to Grace Rose Farm for it's beautiful roses and superb customer service.
    4. My writing goal is a daily gratitude journal.
    5. I'm not a fan of memoirs.
    6. I'd love to join the Partridge family as a stand in for Tracy- because I am unable to play any musical instruments and the tambourine doesn't look too hard.
