Mother's Day Gifts/Beauty Edition

Hello, dear friends.  I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend.  I had a fantabulous time celebrating my birthday with my Sista.

Remember the balloons from my Dad's 100th?
My Sista drove three hours in the car with these balloons.  Evidently, the store was out of "4's" and had to give her a "6" instead.

We celebrated my big day at Sorellina's.  The food and service were outstanding.  My #1 had a bottle of vino sent to us.  And my #2 had a flower arrangement delivered to the hotel room.  She also sent me my new scarf that I am modeling in the photo.

I told them that they get a free pass for Mother's Day.

We did a little shopping the next day.

And the Mister took us to Earl's for a scrumptious lunch.

The Mister took it upon himself to order dessert.
I told Sista that she could nosh on the mint garnish and I would take care of the rest.

On Saturday, the Mister and I met my buddy, Annie and her Mister for the MFA exhibit of Art in Bloom and an unbelievably delectable lunch at Abe and Louie's.  I am planning a blog post on the event.  This is a sneak peek of Annie and one of the spectacular arrangements.

Before I go off to enroll in Overeater's Anonymous, here a few ideas for Mother's Day gifts.

Does your Mom need a new makeup mirror?
This one is a good one.
I just wish that I could find one that wouldn't show so many wrinkles laugh lines.

I got a new Clarisonic for Christmas and love it.
I didn't realize how bad my old was until I used the new one.

If your Mom's makeup brushes look as ragged as mine, she needs some new ones.

My #2 gave me this cosmetic bag for my purse last Christmas.
There are a couple of sizes - I got the medium which fits all of my miracles in a tube.

How about a new weekend bag for you your Mom?

Or travel cosmetic bag?

I'm thinking of investing in one of these.
My goal for this Summer is to purge and get organized.
I had the same goal last Summer, but I just didn't get around to it.
I thought shopping for more junk and reading trashy novels was more crucial to my mental health and well being.

After walking around the museum yesterday, I could have used one of these foot massagers.

And one of these massagers.

My hairdryer is an antique, so I am in the market for a new one.  When did they get so darn expensive?
And are they worth the money?
I might give this one a whirl because it says it dries hair quickly which is my only requirement.  Oh yeah, I also want to look like I just walked out of a salon.

How about a facial steamer?
I upgraded from sticking my head in the dishwasher at the end of its cycle to having my own personal steamer.
It also helps my sinuses.

I've mentioned these Alpha Beta Peel pads before.
They're pricey but worth it.

My girls have gotten into facial masks.
I think they are fun to try.
How about a bag full of different kinds for your dear ol' Mom?

I'm going to treat myself to one of these contraptions so that I don't ingest one more calorie.

Until next time...

Mother's Day Gift Ideas in the Bag

Hello, dear friends.  I hope that you are having a good week.  It's still raining here.  Good news though, the weather guy says it will clear off this afternoon.

Before we get this party started, I mentioned a swim skirt that I ordered in my last favorite things post.  It arrived last week, and I absolutely love it.  It's a tad longer than a regular swim skirt, which I appreciate and because it's high waisted, it manages to curb the front and back flab.  I just ordered another one, and they are on sale.

I am not a shoe person.   It's very difficult for me to find comfortable shoes.  When I do find some comfy ones like the espadrilles that I found last summer, I usually order them in many colors.

I am a purse and wallet person.  When the Mister asks me what I want for Mother's Day, I usually tell him that I would like a new Spring purse.  After 28 years of marriage, he knows that I need to pick it out.  Here are some purses that caught my eye.

Now or Never Hodgepodge

daily quotes

Hello, dear friends.  As they say, April showers bring May flowers.  We are expecting plenty of rain today.

I have a couple of busy days ahead.  Tomorrow, I am off to Beantown to meet my Sista for my birthday dinner.  We're staying overnight so we will get some power shopping and lunching in the next day.  This weekend, the Mister and I are meeting some friends for lunch and then we are going to the MFA for the Art In Bloom exhibit.  I smell blog post!

If it's Wednesday, it's time for Hodgepodge.

1. They say you learn something new every day.
What did you learn yesterday?

Yesterday, I learned how to tell if a text has been read.
If you're curious, you can find out here.

2. Have you ever had a now or never moment? Elaborate.

I have many now or never moments.  For instance, at least once a day I say to myself that it's now or never that I am going to buckle down and lose weight.
Unfortunately, never always wins.

3.  April 25th is National Telephone Day.
Do you still have a landline or have you gone mobile only?

Pinterest

We have to have a landline because we have our burglar alarm tied into it.

We just ordered a new set of phones.  This model supposedly will block sales calls, of which we get plenty.  I'll keep you posted as to its effectiveness.

I'm going to miss that perky lady who calls me every twenty minutes to congratulate me on winning a cruise.

When you receive a text message, do you respond immediately?

However...

I can't say the same for other members of the family.
Remember question #1?

Last time you turned your phone off?

The last time I turned off my phone was when I was on a group text that involved more than ten people.

In two or three sentences share with us a story/memory/incident from your childhood (or something current if that's too hard) where the telephone is featured.

I have a vivid memory of my Mother being on the phone with her best bud, Mrs. B.
She kept saying Oh my gosh!  When she got off the phone, she told me that Mrs. B was expecting another baby - #8!  Turned out to be the Prince in this photo with #1.

4. Close call, at someone's beck and call, call the shots, call a meeting, call it quits, call in sick, call on the carpet, wake up call...which call have you 'heard' recently? Explain.

Beck and call 24/7.

5. What subject do you wish you'd paid more attention to in school?

flickr.com

Unfortunately, Home Economics was not taught at my high school.
The Mister has said more than once in our 29 years of marriage that he wished it had.

By the way, in my research, I came across an interesting article listing the Ten Things That You Should Have Learned in High School.  You can find it here.

If you have a college-bound senior,  you might want to go over a few things.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I saw this heartwarming story on the News last week, and I thought I would pass it on.

Until next time...
