The Friday Files

Hello, dear friends.  Happy Friday!  I hope that you all had a good week.  Today, on this bright sunshine-filled day, I am off to meet a friend for lunch and indulge in some retail therapy.

Both breathtaking homes today come from the great state of Pennsylvania.

You can see more of this beautiful home here.

To continue the tour of this lovely house, click here.

This is what I am going to ask the Mister to buy me for Valentine's Day.  That way, when we go on long road trips, he can drive while I can relax and listen to music in my pod.

If you're looking to add storage to your home, this is a must-read.

Some shoe trends that are going to stick around for 2018 can be found here.

I'm the first one to tell you how much I love my UGG boots.
But I can pretty much guarantee you that I will not be featuring the thigh-high version next year.

It's not the best look for one who is height-challenged, such as myself.

Staying in for Valentine's Day?
Here are some dinner suggestions full of love.

You won't believe these pie crusts!
Absolute works of art.

This DIY article is for the young couple with too much energy and time on their hands.

This article belongs in the "it's about time" file.

Attention Women over 5-0!
Did you know that you shouldn't wear foundation with SPF if you are going to have your picture taken?  I found this article full of useful tips and most of the recommended products can be found on Amazon.

Are you still at a loss as to what to get your honey for Valentine's Day?  Why not book a weekend at one of these romantic inns in New England?

The Mister texted me this link with a note that said that he will be picking up dinner all week.

Last but not least, I got a kick out of these Valentine's Day romantic travel stories.

Until next time...

Preppy Empty Nester

I'm Katie. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am an empty nester meandering through my middle-aged years while entangled in the never-ending process of renovating an antique home on the South Shore of Massachusetts. I love to write about books, movies, TV, celebrities, decorating, and weekend adventures. My favorite writing material is derived from my family: the Mister, my girls, #1 and #2, and my two untrainable, rambunctious pups, Chowdah and Chili.

  1. I just love your Friday Files- The BAD thing is that I get so sidetracked on your links that I sometimes forget to come back and comment.

Have a wonderful weekend and let me know how that 'bald cure' works. Hubby would like that....if nothing else he could glue french fries to his head to simulate hair....just a thought---xo Diana

  2. Love that lil Gerber Baby! His smile is the most contagious! Those gorgeous pies have me inspired. Years ago, I would give classes in making crust and pies and once made 2 dozen to sell at a garage sale. They were gone in 10 minutes, now, I rarely make pies. Lady, I’m jealous of your lunch and shopping day, I can’t even get out of our smowmagedon drive! You do a little shopping for me too, lol! xo

  3. I might like the kitchen in the second house. Looks kind of dungeon like.... If I had only known, I'd not have spent the time carefully hemming my new jeans!...Love that berry pie crust!...What a fun post! Have a great weekend.

  4. So much goodness this Friday morning. ;)

I'm going to check out those amazing pie crusts. For some reason, I want to learn to do some of those.

Those Ugg boots...GAG! Do you think someone would actually wear those? What's the world coming to?

    Have a great weekend, Katie!!

  5. You always find the coolest things. I loved the makeup article. I noticed at about 55 I had to change things up. I like the kitten heels, but pretty much have avoided all the other trends. I had to give up mules. I think I must be too clumsy to walk in them.
Those pie crusts are so cool.
    Have a great weekend Katie.

  6. Isn't that Gerber baby just the cutest? It's about time is right. I have a baby picture of Jack where he looks just like the original Gerber baby, so I called him my Gerber baby for quite awhile. Hope you have a fun day of retail therapy!

  7. Happy Weekend! Guess I don't have to worry about photos and foundation...I've never worn it other than on stage. Now, I need to go dig out my flat mules from the 1990s, lol.....

  8. I like decorating the tops of my pies, and your link gave me a few new ideas.

I can assure you that the chemical additive in McDonald's french fry oil isn't the only chemical additive McDonald's uses.

Lots of pretty rooms, but I'm not crazy about the purple and green painted ceiling in the white room.

    Enjoy the warm weekend.

  9. I wouldn't want to live in that first house but I'd take their kitchen in a heart beat! (The Mister can give me McDonald's fries any day. If they were good enough for Julia -- her favorite -- they're good enough for me!)

  10. Baby Lucas is so darn cute! I love the ideas for storage and more space. I keep telling Peter that we are going to have to build a bunk room in the basement for all of the grandkids (locking the wine cellar, of course) and those Pottery Barn beds would be perfect!

  11. Thanks for the early morning laugh I will not be able to get those ridiculous thigh high slouchy Ugg-y boots out of my mind!
That dog food chest/dispenser is amazing.....love that idea! And never met a beautiful pie that wasn't love at first sight:)
