A Super Hodgepodge

Hello, dear friends.  No winter lasts forever but some days if feels like it will.  We're expecting snow today turning into rain.  I hope that you are having a good week.

You know the drill.
If it's Wednesday, it's time for Hodgepodge.

1. February can be a little bit tricky given the weather and the winter and the whatnot. I read a list (here) of things you can do to make your February brighter which included-start planning your next trip, take more baths, make your own chocolate covered strawberries, and exercise in preparation for swimsuit season. Anything on the list you might try? Which suggestion on the list appeals to you most?

Senior Tourism

We are planning a Summer getaway to celebrate a big birthday of the Mister's.

Hallmark

So naturally, I need to get swimsuit-ready.

For some reason, I don't think that making chocolate covered strawberries would brighten my day.

I wouldn't mind licking the bowl, though.

Tell us something not on the list that helps make your February brighter.

Pinterest

I don't own one of these yet, but I think that this might do the trick.

2. Tell us about something you've seen or done recently that you'd say was 'super'?

I think that the Mister did a super job of preparing our Superbowl snacks.

3. Best thing you ate in a 'bowl' last week?

I eat my salad in a bowl every day. Ever since the first of the year, I have skipped the sandwich and opted for my custom-made salad.  I am so mad.  I haven't lost one pound.  As a matter of a fact, I gained weight.

I guess I'm going to have to start cutting back on the lettuce.

4. Something you're 'cheering' for right now?

More like "wishing for."
An early Spring.

5. The Winter Olympics begin Friday, February 9th in Pyeong Chang, South Korea. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being all in and 1 being no interest whatsoever), how interested are you in the games? Which event do you most want to see (you'll find a list here)?

Olympics Org.

I enjoy the Winter Olympics much more than the Summer Olympics.  We usually skip the opening and closing ceremonies because they are such a yawn.  The ice skating and the skiing are my favorite events.

Do you know what the skeleton is?
Neither did I.
It should be in the most uncomfortable category.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Today.com

I watched 48 Hours this week which featured a story on Natalie Wood's death.  The authorities have named her hubby, Robert Wagner a person of interest.  Between you and me, I always thought he was guilty of some funny business.  If you don't know the story, you can find it here.

If you are too young to remember the story, I'm jealous.

Until next time...

  1. Correction: Winter doesn't last forever except in Wisconsin. Love the salad! Hope the protein part has lots of pecans and chocolate chips! That doggie at the end. So cute. And I agree with you on the Wood/Wagner story. Smelt fishy.

  2. I laughed out loud about the not enjoying making chocolate covered strawberries but enjoying licking the bowl! Me too! Happy Hodgepodge!

  3. Katie, I am interested in the investigation into Natalie Wood's death. Like you, I have always thought Robert Waggoner knew more than he was telling. And that picture of the spring garden really made me smile this morning. It is gorgeous.

  4. Oh my, that wine station would definitely make just about anything better! I can't imagine why your salads aren't helping you lose weight. ;) I thought Robert Wagner was always a "person of interest" in Natalie Wood's death? I seem to remember watching a show about it years ago that suggested he might have had something to do with it. My husband mentioned that they also talked to Christopher Walken as he was on the boat that night, too. Hmmm. I wonder if we'll ever know the truth? Have a great rest of your week!

  5. And yes, February and March ARE the longest months of the year!

  6. I actually don't mind making chocolate covered strawberries, and yes, I also enjoy licking the bowl. :)

  7. I love the last comment. The guy is now 88 and yes he probably was a part of her death, but after 40 years and faded memories what is the point? The taxpayerspick up the tab if it moves forward. Get it right the first time! I guess I do have an opinion about this! Happy Wednesday. It's February and my tulips are popping up. Denver has had so little snow and very warm temps. xo laura

  8. I am with you ---bring on spring. I like to add fresh flowers in the house on the worst days. Of course, my worst days probably make someone from you neck of the woods laugh.
I have always thought he knew more as well. It is most likely they got into a spat and it was a bit of a passion crime.

  9. Katie,

That shrimp looks yummy! I need to get serious about losing weight. I keep letting other things side track me from my objective. Hopefully, I will find my way out of this slump soon. I am not a big fan of chocolate covered strawberries. I think it's an over-rated 'romantic' idea if you ask me. Now, give me Godiva truffles and I'm in heaven! :)

  10. Our daughter's birthday is in February. Other than that, February seems like a waiting room. But with better magazines.

  11. We had the thunderstorms down here last night that are probably headed in your direction. It was torrential at times and thunder like I've never heard in February. So, I suggest you find another good book and take your pups to the sun room and enjoy the show. You might want to include a nice bowl of chocolate chip salad while you're there. Have a great weekend, Katie.

  12. I always thought there was something weird about Natalie Wood's death. I wonder if we will ever know what really happened... I am SO ready for spring. Normally, I enjoy each season and can appreciate a snowy winter but with everyone being sick this year, I just want some warm spring weather! My kids have a snow day today but honestly, the roads really don't look that bad. We only have about an inch so far and it's supposed to change to rain. Then again, I would rather have them home than at that germ-fest of a school! Great post - as always!

  13. I agree wholeheartedly on the winter olympics! Love the skating and the skiing better than the other events. I am trying to do more salads, too, without much luck. I am on prednisone so I am sure that doesn't help at all....grrrrr....

Have a wonderful Wednesday. xo Diana ps...WHERE did you find that picture of me in the swimsuit?

  14. Your posts always make me smile, Katie. The thing about salads is I want to add all of this "healthy" stuff to them...well, maybe not the cookies...but maybe too much chicken or cheese or whatever. Before you know it, there a lot of calories in that bowl! But let's just keep calling it a salad anyway...it sounds way better than sandwich! The picture of granny in her swimsuit cracked me up...if I only looked so good!

  15. I can't believe they are bringing up the Natalie Wood death, AGAIN!! They were all drunk, she fell over, he didn't save her - so I say let it rest!! LOL.....Spring better come soon as I am getting cabin fever and a bit cranky!!

  16. It's odd to me we're still hearing about (investigating?) Natalie Wood's death. Hope you're headed somewhere fabulous for hubs birthday! Your salad : ) I always remember the little girl who lived across the street in Maryland coming for dinner one night and I asked her if she liked salad. She said yes she LOVED salad. I asked what she wanted in hers and she said cheese and croutons. Nothing else. No lettuce, nothing. I hated to tell her that's not really a salad. Have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yes! That looks like my kind of salad :)
I saw a special, a while back, about Natalie Wood's death, and I thought, back then, some things just didn't add up...

  18. You have to be one of the most fun and creative bloggers! Just give me the dark chocolate and I can eat the strawberries by the handful.

I have always thought there was more to the story about Natalie Wood. I liked her so much in movies when she was a child and most of her adult movies. It always made me so sad to think of her drowning and how ironic it was in light of her fear of water.

  19. Sis! I'm with you how the Opening and Closing Ceremonies can be a bit of a snoozefest on the screen. However. They are rather special when seen live. Yup. I was at both here in Vancouver in 2010. Oh my word. There is nothing like it. The bus carrying the majority of the VIPs got caught in traffic and we watched in delight as everyone crept in a good 30 minutes late. They missed the best bit: when that snowboarder zoomed through the screen and landed on the runway. Magical. We got drums, flashlights and ponchos as keepsakes. It was a hoot watching the folks scramble to get the Olympic flag to flutter and when one of the arms of the torch didn't rise out of the ground and former Canadian speed skater Catriona Le May Doan was left standing there? Priceless. She handled it like a pro. Yes, I'm all about seeing it live.

  20. I missed 48 Hours -- I'm sure it's on demand. I have to go back and check that out. It's just too sad and too fishy for me. (No pun intended.)

  21. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer but the Olympics, whether Summer or Winter, are non-starters in this house. All the corruption and cost of hosting the event have ruined it forever. Loud mouthed athletes and cheating also played a role. I can't get those East German "women" out of my mind....read some of their memoirs. So sad how they were used and abused. Isn't there a movie out on Tonya Harding? I rest my case. OTOH, that wine bar is super fabulastic. Want!

  22. I aways thought RW was behind it too! Is that a cookie salad I spy or big flat croutons...no matter, I'll eat it..YUM! Woke up to our 3rd snowstorm this week and 6 more inches on he ground. I got 2 wine fridges with the new house, now I need wine to fill it, lol! Should've got the station instead and bought in bulk, lol!

  23. Enjoyed reading your answers today...I so enjoy your humor.

  24. That is such a drag to try and eat better and not see the results! Or go the other way! Six pounds down on Keto but not an ounce last week 😩😩😩
    An early spring sounds divine!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'd be licking the bowl, too but no early spring, please. We were at 73 today, will be 50 tomorrow, and back at 75 for a few days. This is crazy. I just want winter when it's winter and spring when it's spring for goodness sake. I haven't lost one single pound either but then, I'm not trying. I'm wishing. Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  26. That shrimp looks DELICIOUS! Yes, interesting about reopening the Natalie Wood case. I really look forward to your Hodgepodge and all the giggles! Thanks for that!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh, I so agree, something is definitely fishy with Robert Wagner. Shame on him! And, no weight loss eating salad, that's not fair. :o)) Keep smiling, spring will be here soon. I hope!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Now that’s my kinda salad!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Katie, I agree something never seemed right about Natalie Wood’s death. I always suspected Wagner. I like the skiing and figure skating of the Winter Olympics, not so much the opening and closing. Your salad is my kind of salad! Spring will come, just hang on!

  30. Katie, I also have felt Robert Wagner had something to do with the death of Natalie Wood. We had a sneak peek of spring here yesterday.Rain and cool temperatures are predicted for tomorrow. My summer plans include a knee replacement. Hopefully I can get the second knee replaced as soon as I am recovered from the first. I will have two replaced hips and knees. It should be an experience the next time I am screened by the TSA. Stay warm. Hugs to your sweet hooligans...Maxine

  31. Good morning from southern NH. I have come to believe that a true New Englander is someone who complains incessantly about the cold Winters but would never move away because Winter is the price we pay to live in the best part of the country.
I love Coconut Breaded Shrimp from the Outback. Your husband seems to have captured their recipe, judging from your picture.
Thank you for visiting my blog and for leaving comment.

  32. I love that quote about winter and spring - beautiful. Those prawns look delicious and I have to say that I love chocolate covered strawberries, as long as we don't have them too often.
    Have a lovely weekend.

  33. Most definitely a 'fishy' story dealing with Natalie Wood's death.
I enjoy the ice skating and skiing events, also.
