An ASAP Hodgepodge

Hello, dear friends.  How's your week going?  All is well here.  On Monday, I met a dear friend for lunch and shopping.  We hit some fabulous sales.

You know what happens on Wednesdays around here.  Joyce comes up with the questions and bloggers come up with the answers.

Here are mine.

1.  ASAP typically stands for "as soon as possible."  What else could it stand for in your life right now?

Always Say A Prayer

When my girls were younger, I was an incurable worry wart.  When they were babies, I was constantly putting a mirror under their noses to make sure they were still breathing.  Later, when they were attending school, and there was an outbreak of meningitis, I would ask them if their necks hurt about 3 times a day.
Whenever I had a worrisome thought, I would Always Say A Prayer... just in case.

I always thought that once the girls were grown and on their own my worrying would stop.  But it's even worse!  When I don't hear from one of the girls for awhile, and they don't answer my hundreds of texts, I suffer from dry mouth, cold sweats, and the dry heaves.

And then I Always Say A Prayer... just in case.

And then I contact their local Police Department.

And an ambulance for me.

2.  Are you the last person to speak up in a group or the first to have an idea?  Is it a good thing or no?

Basically, I like to stand on the sidelines, give the group the stink eye, and judge them.  But that's only when I'm in a good mood.

3.  What do you remember best about being 12?

My new hairdo.
I thought for sure that it would catch on, but it was a no-go.

4.  January 16th is National Winnie the Pooh Day.  Which character do you relate to the most, and why?  If you're stumped, go here for inspiration.

I took the test, and it's confirmed... I'm Winnie.
We also share the same body type.

It probably has to do with all those jams and cakes.

5. What's an app you use that helps simplify or make life easier for you in some way?

Photoshop!!!!
Here is an example of a before and after shot of me.

Before

After

I told you it was great!!

6.  San Fransisco, San Diego, San Juan, San Antonio, Sanibel... You have an all expenses paid long weekend to one of these destinations.  Which one do you choose and why?

Sanibel, hand down.
The reason, you ask?
It was sunny and 80 degrees yesterday.

What's the gate number?

7.  Share with us a song that makes you feel nostalgic.  For what?

Any song on this album.
It reminds me of a time in my life when I was carefree, and I continually didn't worry about my children.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I admit it, I enjoy True Crime books and movies.  I thought the recent OJ mini-series was interesting and well done.

But a movie chronicling this drama?
No thanks, I'll take the money instead.

Until next time...

  1. What a fun Hodge Podge post! You have beautiful girls..it took me just a few seconds to realize that they are grown now and not those little girls anymore. Many moms share your anxiety. I tend to pray a lot as well. Your ASAP is the best I have read yet. Oddly enough, I see zero resemblance between you and Winnie the Pooh.

  2. LOL-So many little gems here today. We NEVER stop worrying about our kids, do we? I suppose even in our dotage when they are visiting us in the old age home we will be worrying about them driving home safely...lol...unless our minds are gone and then we won't care---which will worry THEM.

What? You don't want to watch The Skeered Skater? (as in- she was a'skeered for her life)...lol xo Diana

  3. I like your asap. My daughter was here the other day and I said text me when you're home and she gave me a little talking to about how I need to give her a sufficient amount of time to actually get home and get inside before I send her an 'ARE YOU HOME???' text. Ha! It's 64 degrees here at 8:30 am. Not bad for January! I sometimes miss the beauty of a snowy northeast winter, but definitely not missing the cold. Enjoy your day!

  4. Oh my gosh- you are hilarious! I love each and every one of your posts! Thank you so much!

  5. I had the same asap and I was Winnie. I still worry about my daughters 29 and 27---and I feel the same way when I don't hear from there--especially after texting 500 million times!!

  6. As always, a post to make you smile and giggle! Love it! By the way...I am Kanga! How fun and adorable this was! Have a great weekend Katie!

  7. Mothers ALWAYS worry about their children, regardless of age! So true! I kept texting my two the other evening during The Bachelor (we 'share'opinions during it) and they weren't responding - so I of course thought they were either dead, or tied up somewhere (Not watching The Bachelor?!?!?) Turns out it was my fault. I got a new phone and had to go into Settings to turn on the"Iphone" share or something. My oldest had to call and tell me! ha!!

  9. We are birds of a feather Katie!! I have always been a worry wart, one of the reasons my words for the year are Fear NOT! And I eat up the true crime shows on tv which is good until you are home alone and hear something suspicious. ( Did someone creep into my attic to come out and murder me???) Sanibel would also be my choice. Although the temps here are in the 60s and 70s this week! I will take it and be happy!

  10. I've never been much of a worrier, but I do stay in contact with my kids! Your girls are beautiful - they take after you I think!

Your hodgepodges always make me smile!

    ps- I was Christopher Robin!

  11. Ahhh, James Taylor. Me too...

Always Say a Prayer. I'm going to remember that one. My sons are 27 and 24...the worrying continues.

  12. Do we ever stop worrying about our children? I haven't for sure. I like that..Always Say a Prayer. Your answers always make me smile. Thanks!

  13. I adore your blog and so glad I found it late last year. Your posts and stories make me smile and giggle! It's a perfect way to start my day. Question, do you really, really not cook? I realize the Mister is a chef, but does he cook all the meals? Just curious. No judgment here....I think you might be on to something!

    1. Sugar... when my girls were little, they thought I was the best cook in the world. My specialties were: Kraft Mac & Cheese with frozen peas, frozen pizza with frozen peas, and Hot Pockets with you-know-what. No matter how "kid friendly" the Mister would make his cooking the girls were not interested. They thought their Mom was a better "cooker" than their Dad. They have since changed their minds. Lucky I'm not sensitive. Thanks so much for taking the time to read my blog.

  14. Loved this!! So were you the original helicopter mom? Lol. You always give me a smile. And James Taylor. You've Got A Friend!!

  15. I can live without Nancy and Tonya, too. But James T -- now that's altogether different! One of the best live concerts I ever saw. He lives down the road (about a mile down the road) from Rick's brother. We drove by the driveway multiple times and I looked for him in Pittsfield and Lenox... so far, no sightings. But when we head to MA in March, I'll be on the lookout again! (I suspect you're pretty far from Marlborough, aren't you?) We'll be there a day or two for Rick's trade show, then back to Pittsfield where his bro lives.

  16. Always Say a Prayer... I love this and believe in the power of prayer. I haven't thought about Tonya and Nancy in a long time, but I'm with you, let that event become a trivia question, not a made for TV mini series. James Taylor is better than Calgon, he can "take me away"!
    Cheers!

  17. Haha...I must try photoshop !! I think I would head to Sanibel, however only for the sunshine and view - walking on the beach there is impossible with all of the beautiful shells! Enjoy your day!

  18. My #2 gave me a coffee mug with the ASAP (always say a prayer) quote on it for Christmas. It's my favorite.

  19. When I read your title I wondered why you were blogging about the After School Activities Program, since that is what ASAP means to our family. But I like yours so much better.

  20. This was great! Loved Photoshop! And the same body shape as Pooh. :)

  21. I love your hodgepodges! You always make me laugh!

  22. Hi Katie, I'm Kanga--the Mom!!! I wonder if she knows about ASAP? I think it gets to be automatic with mothers--think about kids, say a prayer. Worry too! Sanibel, definitely! Have you ever seen the Nancy/Tonya reference to the broken shoelace in the Blades of Glory movie with Will Ferrell? Hilarious. And 12 was not an age I remember with fondness. I mean, it was the beginning of junior high (as we used to call it way back then!), right? I wait every week for your hilarious answers to this quiz! Love them all! Linda

  23. Oh Katie, so many wonderful things in this post! Your two little sweetie pies are so adorable! I had The Best of James Taylor and listened to it over and over. A funny thing is, I had just finished writing my own post and then started getting caught up reading others' posts. I wrote about feeling a bit like Eeyore and then laughed when I saw your bit about Winnie the Pooh. Yes, I did click on the link, took the test, and found out I'm Piglet!! (Oh dear, oh dear) -Jenn

  24. Ha, I was a worrier as a teacher. I can't imagine what I would have been as a mom. Poor Sadie definitely has an overprotective mom.
Your girls are so adorable. I just love their beautiful smiles.
Sanibel is the one in the group I've never been to, but I think I'll head to San Francisco. Love that city!
I'm definitely a Winnie. I love to get into the honey!

  25. Oh what fun - so much to comment on! Your girls are SO adorable! I totally understand the mom worrying! I obsess over everything - and thanks for letting me know it only gets worse..ugh. I think I would have to choose San Juan. I love the Caribbean and that was the first island we took our son to when he was just one. That was during our stage of "just because we have kids, we are still going to travel"... Well, traveling with a baby in the Caribbean wasn't as easy (or as fun) as we had planned. Luckily, it has gotten much easier as the boys have gotten older. That "baby" just turned 13 last week! Time sure does fly! You never fail to make me laugh with your entertaining posts! I took the quiz and I am a Kanga. I guess that was pretty accurate. Love the golden retriever with skates. Enjoy your day!

  26. Hilarious! I always look forward to your Hodgepodge because you invariably add an interesting and/or humorous slant to your answers. I so approve of your ASAP interpretation. And, I agree with all the others, your daughters are beautiful and worth worrying over.

    STOP worrying about those GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. OMG I'm the same way when I can't get ahold of my kids...especially when I know they are traveling. The other day I knew my daughter was on the interstate and I did hear from her when she was on her way home. I calculated what time she'd get home and asked her to text me when she got there. After a 3 hour delay of when she should have arrived home I started texting/calling but couldn't get in touch with her. So I called my granddaughter's phone and son in law's phone...no one answered! Of course by then I called hubby at work all in a frenzy about not hearing from them sure they'd been a horrible accident. I started looking online to see if there'd been any recent accidents in that area of the interstate....in other words driving myself crazy! Finally heard from her, she'd been napping with my 2 year old grandson! I've told her and my son (who is good about letting me know when he gets home from a trip) karma is going to get them one day when their kids start driving. Hello....my name is Judy and I'm a worry wart!

    BTW, your girls are gorgeous!

  30. Glad to know that I'm not the only chronic worrier out there. Good thing nothing worries my husband.

  31. Oh yes, send me somewhere warm -- really needing a few days in the sun! Love the Always Say a Prayer for ASAP! Hope you have a fun weekend!

  32. As always, your Hodge Podge post is so entertaining and fun to read! I, too, used to love True Crime, but somewhere early in my career as an official court reporter, I lost interest :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. You are hysterical!! As my Mom once said, "once a Momma, always a Momma, no matter the age of your child." Such true words!!! It has rained for a week here and I'm past ready for some sunshine!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Every single time my phone rings and caller ID says it is one of the children, I say a prayer because I'm convinced that they are calling with bad news or some sort of crisis. A mom is only as happy as their unhappiest child. Oy!
