Hodgepodge On The Move

Good morning, dear friends.  I hope that you are enjoying your week.  You know the drill.  If it's Wednesday, it's time for Hodgepodge.

1.  What would you say is the best and worst thing about moving house?

As many of you know, our family has moved quite a bit.  I am fortunate because we have lived in wonderful places and made many good friends all over the country.

Now, that doesn't mean I enjoy the actual mechanics of the move.  Thankfully, the Mister's company took care of everything; from packing to unpacking.  But it's still painful.  I used to say that I have to research school zones, figure out where the furniture is placed, deal with the realtor, register the girls at school, find doctors, dentists, dry cleaners, decorator, grocery stores, hairdresser, church, just to name a few of the tireless tasks.

On the other hand, all the Mister had to do is find his way to his new job and then locate the men's room.

2.  What's moved you recently?

The Mister and I went to see this new Disney flick a couple of weeks ago.  We probably wouldn't have gone, but it was a slow week at the movies.  I was truly moved and inspired by The Queen of Katwe.  When interviewed, the young lady who the movie was based on was asked what message she wished the movie would portray.  She answered hope wins.  This is a great movie to bring your tweens and teens.

3.  Do you feel your life is moving forward, backward, or is it on hold?  How so?

The company that the Mister works for has recently been sold to a larger company.  We are waiting to see if we will move or stay.  Being in limbo is the worst part of the moving process.  I think I have spent 22 out of 26 years of my marriage in this state.

4.  On the move, move mountains, get a move on, it's your move.... which phrase best applies to some aspect of your life right now?  Explain.

Probably on the move.  This week is jam packed with fun things.  I am photographing one of my favorite reader's kitchens, attending an author's reading, lunching with an old Texas buddy and lastly, meeting a reader for the first time visiting from Cape Town.  Yup, as in South Africa, Cape Town.

Don't worry.
I'll take lots of pics.

5.  What song makes you want to get up and move?

6.  Your favorite snack to grab when you're 'on the move.'

I want you to think that I grab these.

But in reality, I snatch a few packets of these.

7.  What one accessory makes your home feel like home?

Actually, I have two.

And sometimes 3, when he's not overreacting to the Amex bill.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Did you know that it is National Pet Peeve week?  I hate to tell you, but I have more pet peeves than I have sense.  I am only going to share two of them with you, though.

Lucky you.

I have reached my limit on political ads.  Not only am I subjected to Massachusetts candidates, but I am fortunate enough to be exposed to the ads for the New Hampshire candidates, as well.

If I hear this woman's name one more time, I'm going to scream.

The second pet peeve of mine is Facebook friends who grandstand their political beliefs.  I don't care who you're voting for and there is no way you will sway my vote.

I feel a lot better now that I got that off my chest.

What are your pet peeves?

Until next time...

  1. Wow busy week ahead, missy! And the two four legged babies do make a house a home! Pet peeves...I have a whole lot of them! xo

  2. Ditto on the Facebook feed. Between political views and direct sales, I have been trying to stay away from Facebook. Sounds like you have a wonderful week ahead, and I hope that y'all get some definite news about a move. Thanks for the tip about the movie. It sounds like a perfect fit for our family. That movie just didn't get much hype in our area, so it wasn't on our radar. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  3. You are definitely kept on your toes right now. I would not enjoy moving frequently. However, a move would most certainly clear out a whole lot of stuff that should be gotten rid of. Have a great week! -Jenn

  4. I always enjoy your posts. So much fun with all those pictures you add!

I'm so tired of this whole election season. I don't unfriend people on Facebook, but I have unfollowed a few so I don't have to see all their political junk they keep posting every thirty minutes.

  5. Hi,
You make me smile. That last photo of the dog bubble wrapped. HA!
Pet Peeve, well, I hate hearing the F bomb in the grocery store when a couple can not agree on a cereal choice. The F bomb is a huge Pet Peeve of mine.

  6. Should I Stay Or Should I Go. It's always tough to be stuck on hold, wondering if there's a move in the near future. I hope you can stay. That's such a pretty part of the country. I'm sick to death of both political candidates and campaigns this time around. My pet peeve is listening to anyone trying to convince me that either one would make a great leader or is worthy of the highest office in our land.

  7. Can I just tell you how much I love your honesty! IT is so rare in the social media world and it is so refreshing when I see it!

I am so over the election, the ads, the politics and more. I could not agree with you more, I don't care about your politics and you should not care about mine. We are allowed to have different opinions.

I hate moving! I always decide I have too much stuff, then I donate a ton of it and when I get to the new place I am made because I gave all my things away.

Have a great day, love those pups. Enjoy all of the fun things on your list!

  8. Awww, Katie. I am so blitzed with campaign ads I could puke--but then the family would think I am anorexic even though I don't LOOK anorexic. I, too, am tired of FB postings about the hate for one candidate or another. State your opinion, if you must, but don't belittle other people that have a different candidate in mind.

Great post and it looks like another busy week for you. I think you have moved ALMOST as many times as I have. Aren't we lucky? - that may have been written in a sarcastic tone. xo Diana

  9. Waiting for a relocation decision is always disheartening, I hope the final word comes to you soon. Nice that the company moves you, but I found that I accumulate all kinds of 'stuff' because I never had to pack/unpack it. When we did pack/move on our own it felt like moving a mountain! lol

I agree, FB has been less than enjoyable lately. I want my cute kittens back!
    Cheers!

  10. I'm with you on FB. It doesn't take long before the conversation deteriorates. I really can't wait till the election is over.

It must feel like being in limbo with the move. I hope it goes the way you want it to most -- I've always been a stay put person, but there's much to be said for a forced change. Both good and bad!

  11. Katie, i scroll past all those political posts on FB. Do they really think a lightbulb will go off and I will say...Hey I need to vote for So and So. I just like seeing everyone's vacation and family pix. And thanks for being honest about grabbing some Ritz crackers!! To be honest I grab a piece of chocolate. ( it has magnesium and that is GOOD for you!!)

  12. I love decorating and living in a new house, but all the administration and moving day itself..not so much!
Looks like you have a fun week ahead of you.
I hope you will know soon if you need to start packing , any cities/ states that you prefer?

  13. Bless you and all your moves! I think I've moved 3 times since I've been married and two of those were in the same city. Same pet peeves -- FB political opinions -- keep your opinion to yourself people! My other pet peeve -- not having any chocolate in the morning -- I cannot deal without chocolate! Have a great day!

  14. Just found you - and yes, we picked the SAME SONG so naturally, I'll be back! Enjoying this hodgepodge and getting to know new friends!

  15. I always look forward to the Hodgepodge! I hope you find out about the job soon so you can feel more settled. By the way, my husband looks the same way when the Amex bill comes! Actually, it may be a little worse... You are so good with seeing movies. We never go out to see them. Usually I just watch them on TV so I can fall asleep after my long day of running these two boys around. So yes, my phase of life is "on the move" these days! I cannot wait for the election to be over! I too, have facebook friends who rant on and on everyday. I really need to block them...Hope all is well with you!

  16. The movie clip looks like something I'd like to see--especially since I can now get closed captioning in the theatre (I'm hearing impaired)! We have two sisters in Africa now, one in Kenya working with orphans whose parents died of AIDS and one working in South Sudan. She is a nurse and is training medical students. Politics? I'm sick of ads and repeated emails which I refuse to open! Good luck if you find it necessary to undertake a move!

  17. No. You must simply tell the powers that be that your other Sis has yet to visit. You cannot move until she does. If that doesn't work, tell them that Bert has already bought the tables for the sunroom soirees. They are NOT returnable. That should do it ...

  18. For realz on the politics on Facebook. I just keep hitting 'see less of posts like this'. Pretty soon my feed will be empty : ) My hubs made that same face when he saw the window treatment quote. I am with you on the state of limbo. I've spent more married years there than any other state. So are you hoping to stay or hoping to move?

  19. I am with you on the political ads and may I add phone calls as well! NO I DON'T WANT TO TAKE YOUR SURVEY!!!!!
    I love that song too!
Good answer on the home accessory question! I should have picked that too.
    Enjoy your week!

  20. Hope you are released from limbo soonest. Not knowing is the worst. A long time ago I came to the conclusion that I was much happier when I don't worry about stuff I have absolutely no control over.

    1. forgot to include my method of dealing with phone calls! I have the house phone switched over to fax. Once a day or so I check the log for numbers I recognize.

  21. Living on hold is no good. I hope you get some relief from that soon. As for my pet peeves, I hate to get behind people in line at a checkout who wait the whole time the cashier is adding up their order, and THEN they start to look for the cash or card to pay for it. No one uses checks anymore, thank goodness. I also hate the situation where people who are sending others to get items they forgot to buy while in the store, have they never heard of a shopping list?

  22. Your week sounds wonderful! I'll be eager to see photos and read a report on these outings. You do know you live a charmed life? '-)
Life on HOLD is stressful. Was there myself a year ago. Hope you have some answers soon. I haven't moved all that often, but I did go through the motions of packing and filling two storage units a year ago. All I have to say is, "It's a lot of work!"
Get a move on is what I need to do. I have many things on my To Do list! Favorite snack on the go ~ an apple. Dislike anything political posted on FB. Way too many repost things that they have no idea has any truthful basis. Don't understand why anyone would do that.
No question what makes our home feel like home. She has four legs and the cutest face ever!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh, no! Just when you get your home all furnished the way you like, you may have to move again. Hope you don't have to if you and the Mister love where you are now. Keep us posted.

  24. On hold is not a good place - whether it's waiting out the weather (I sure Matthew is NOT a popular name this year - that would be under the category of pet peeve), waiting on results of tests for health, waiting on....you get it. I hope you guys can relieve any stress associated with all that.
Pet peeves - FB rants, yes. I simply unfollow them (it's the friendly approach, as opposed to unfriending).
Grab and go...I've been crushing the Blue Diamond salt & vinegar almonds lately...oh my, good!
Cake by the Ocean (by DNCE) also makes me want to get up and dance. I downloaded it, along with the JT tune. :)
Have a great rest of week!

  25. Hi Katie!
I do hope you'll know about your move soon. That's got to be nerve racking. I always liken moving to childbirth. You forget how bad it is until you do it again.😉
Ps I'm looking forward to seeing TQOK. It sounds great.
Also agree about all the political craziness. Can we not manage common courtesy and civility anymore? And is everyone really this psycho?

  26. I laughed out loud when I saw your Ritz crackers - our #1 grab and go snack, too!! I'm also tired of political stuff - tired, tired, tired!
