A Senseless Hodgepodge

Hello, dear friends.  I hope you all are having a great week.  If it's Hump Day, it's time for Hodgepodge.

1.  What would you say is your strongest sense?

What has deteriorated in my eye sight and hearing as age creeps up on me, I hope is made up for in the common sense department.

2.  Do you believe in the idea of a 'sixth sense?'

Even though my girls are in their twenties, I never miss an opportunity for a lecture or a lesson.  Ask them.  One of my best speeches involves being aware of your surroundings with your sixth sense.  I tell them if they get a feeling that something is not right, get out of the situation.

My helpful lectures are usually greeted with polite silence.

3.  When do you most feel like a slave to time?  Explain.

Sometimes Hodgepodge makes my head hurt.

I feel like a slave to time every Wednesday morning as I am putting the finishing touches on Hodgepodge every week.

4.  Have you ever worked in a restaurant?  How would you rate the experience?  If you could own a restaurant what kind would it be?

I have never worked in a restaurant.  If I owned one, I would love to have a beautiful bakery just like the one in It's Complicated.  My title would be Owner and Chief Taster.

And while you're granting wishes, I'll take her home kitchen too.

5.  Ever traced your family tree?
Share something you learned there.

I have not.  However, I would not be surprised if royalty and prestige were part of the story.

6.  What did your childhood bedroom look like?

I can't remember.
I spent most of my time in time out.

7.  Anyone who knows me knows I love ______________.

my family, friends, a glass or two of wine, and a good bargain.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Does anybody watch Yours, Mine, or Ours?   I think it's pretty good.  The premise is Reza from Shahs and Taylor, a decorator, help couples who have fallen in love, own separate homes, and decide to cohabitate.  Taylor designs the plans for the renovation of both homes and Reza shows them a house that they could buy that meets both of their needs.  The couple decides what would be best for them.

I thought about my Texas friends last night.  I watched this Bravo show and this darling couple was the subject.  She had a cute house in Historic McKinney, and he had a home in Preston Hollow.  The crazy part is that the house Reza finds for them to buy is the exact one that the Mister and I thought about buying about six years ago in McKinney.  If you like the real estate and renovation shows, I think this is a good one.

What is your strongest sense?

Until next time...

  1. My strongest sense? I have a sense that you weren't kidding about the time out. Lol (just kidding). And it's nice to know that we both have common sense! :-) Have a great week.

  3. Well, how interesting is that Katie! I will have to catch the rerun of that Bravo show. I have about decided to stop watching RHOC...it has gone beyond at this point....waste of time. I miss my childhhod bedroom so much. Dream about it often Have a great weekend!

  4. I have not even heard of the show, but your account does make it sound interesting. I love the decorator shows but have grown weary of the ones that have monopolized HGTV for much too long now. Except for Fixer Upper of course. But, how fun to see something so familiar on TV and especially a house you had considered.

  5. How ironic that the house you looked at would be on the show! I haven't seen that show yet but should check it out. My strongest sense is probably my intuition. I am practically psychic at times! Always love the hodgepodge!

  7. I'm with you on the bakery and kitchen! That movie was so good!! My uncle attempted to figure out the family tree, but stopped when he found out my grandfather (his dad) sneaked into the US illegally from Canada! He did love Montreal! I will look for that show as I think I've seen every HGTV show a million times! Have you seen Welcome Back Potter on HGTV? Monica Potter from Parenthood moved back to Cleveland and bought and is re-doing the family home with her sisters -- sweet show! Have a great rest of the week. Love Hodgepodge wednesday!

  9. I sometimes get a similar silence, but in spite of that I do think they take note of the message. I love the French bakery/cafe in It's Complicated. That remains a favorite film in our house. Hubs loves it too.

  10. We'd have to say our sense of smell which is a bad thing to have around the five teenage boys we're raising! Our childhood bedroom had Laura Ashley wallpaper, twin beds (of course!) and a round tower. It was pretty neat! Hope you're having a happy hump day, Katie.

  11. I would love to have that bakery! So cute! I could bake and you could taste!

I absolutely believe in sixth sense. Keep lecturing your girls, everyone needs a reminder.

  13. Polite silence is preferable to an eyeroll or a "I know mom". My eyesight used to be fabulous. Then reading glasses and I became best friends. (why is the print on all items purchased in a drug store so tiny???) I would like to say that I think your sense of humour is pretty darn good, too! -Jenn

  14. I'm going to have to find that episode of Yours, Mine & Ours! My parents lived in downtown McKinney when I was born until I was two. It's the cutest, little house!! I kinda wish they would have never sold it! I would live there for sure, and walk to Rick's for dinner every night, and Landon for a night cap!! ;)

  15. Your number 7 is the essence of life. My sense of smell is excellent. Will gladly trade it in for more common sense.

  16. Such a great hodgepodge....definitely the 6th sense is the best, and I also preach it to my two adult daughters, as my mother did to me. Even if they are silent now, we're hopefully germinating the seeds for their futures.
Family history....lucky for me, mine has been extensively researched on both sides. We have copies of some very cool documents on my dad's side where [then] Gov James Monroe (to be our 5th Pres) granted property to my forefathers in [then] Virginia, now West Virginia.
I could've sure used those two from Yours, Mine & Ours when my husband and I combined households....come to think of it, right now would be a good time too, as we're heading into renovation and update mode, trying to marry our styles for bath and kitchen. Please wish us luck. Meanwhile, how cool to have your targeted home featured! I'll have to check that out! Have a great weekend, Katie!

  17. As always, a delightful hodgepodge that makes me smile. I'd love that "It's Complicated" kitchen, too! I think there's lots of good sense here! Happy week!

  18. Yes, as always a fun hodgepodge. Your common sense...yes, that is so true. I am so thankful, I have been blessed with common sense and I have shared with my boys, how important it is to have.

  19. I've drummed the "listen to your gut" message into my kids' head, too. I'm just sure that they have listened and taken to heart even if they appeared to be ignoring me. How wacky about the house in McKinney?!?! I saw the tail end of that episode and will now have to pull it up on demand. Hope you are having a fabulous week!
