A Taxing Hodgepodge

Good morning, dear friends.  It's a beautiful sunny day here in the Northeast.  Still pretty crisp, though.  But who's complainin'?

It's time for Hodgepodge.  There are plenty of fun bloggers that partake, so if you have the time, tap the button to visit some.

1.  What's the last thing you did that could be described as 'taxing'?

Have you not read my last post?

2.  If you could plant a garden of anything, what would it be?

The Garden Aesthetic

I dream of having an all-white garden.

3.  April 10-16 is National Library Week.  Will you celebrate with a visit to your nearest library?  When did you last make a trip to the library?  What are you reading right now?  What's one title on your want-to-read list?

This is my library in the 'hood.  I pass it every day on my walk.  It also houses a consignment shop on the second floor.
Books + Bargains = Jackpot!

Amazon

I am reading this now and enjoying it.

Amazon

I am listening to this one.
This one is pretty good, too.

This is on my gotta read list because I am a big fan of Mary Kubica.  It will be released in May.

4.  Share a saying or an old wives tale you heard while growing up, you believed to be true or that you paid attention to 'just in case?'

My former internist in Texas swore by this old wives tale.  My family are big apple eaters.

5.  Are you a fan of onions?  Garlic? Ginger? What's a dish you love that contains one, two, or all three items listed?

Hot Caramelized Onion Dip with Bacon & Gruyere
 Spicy Southern Kitchen.

I started drooling when I spied this dip on Pinterest.

I love caramelized onions but not raw ones, and I adore garlic.  The jury is still out on ginger.

6.  Where does nurturing end and indulging begin?  What are some skills or qualities a person needs to possess in order to be viewed as mature.

I believe that a mature person is one that faces defeat with grace.  An example of this is Jordan Spieth, who was expected to win the Masters tournament last weekend,  but crumbled under pressure and lost.

I don't remember the winner's name, but I will never forget Jordan Spieth's dignity in defeat.

7.  What leading figure in any field would you like to hear speak, and why?

I would love to hear Oprah speak.
Why?
Because she's Oprah!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

An oldie but a goodie.

Until next time...

  1. That dignity in defeat was remarkable. I wish our politicians would take note. What I love about white flowers is that at night with even the tiniest bit of moonlight they fairly glow, while the colored flowers remain hidden from sight.

  2. Good morning....not looking forward to your #1 one bit but an all white garden...YES!! Nothing prettier, your library is adorable:) So charming....used to go to mine a lot but sadly most books are now bought through Amazon (when I have time to read which is not nearly as often though I love it). Jordan S. is a class act all the way. A great role model for today's youth. Wishing you a great day, the sun is out..a great sign!

  3. Good morning Katie! well my tax appointment yesterday (finally!) was taxing! Adore a white garden of almost any flowers! A book store and consignment shop in one locale, that is a dream come true! Right now I am reading After You by Jojo Moyes, the sequel to Me Before You. If only more athletes would set great examples ( especially for our youth to see) like Jordan did last week.

  4. What a charming library you have. I think there must be some truth to the apple a day saying. Have a great rest of the week :)

  5. Love your little library -- so adorable and sounds like a bonus when you can shop and read at the same place! Hope you have a great day and the temps warm up for you!

  6. I would go to that library everyday it is so cute! The apple a day saying is one I read about a lot, they say it helps you loose weight, apples are called "natures toothbrush" and so much more.

Ok, that caramelized onion dip, I could eat the whole thing right now! It looks delicious!

  7. Your town's library looks like perfection. I reviewed Thd Widow in today's post. I thought it was very good and I loved the different points of view.

  8. I am in total agreement with your take on Jordan Spieth...he's a class act! Love your quaint little library! That's one I'd HAVE to visit! What a sweet doxie puppy...I want one! Enjoy your day, Katie!

  9. Yes to Jordan Spieth! So nice to have positive role models. If you get to the UK you need to visit Sissinghurst Castle. They have the most amazing white garden, makes me want one too. Enjoy your day!

  10. Katie, "taxing" at the desk right now with a last minute task to help the chef before he files our taxes. Love a white garden! Have the look in my shade garden, but since it's shade there is more green than white. Gotta find some more white shade bloomers. Jordan Spieth is a role model for all. Makes Texas proud!!! Visit the library frequently, heard Laurie Kind speak at Book People on Saturday, and eager to read her latest book. I've made note of the titles you shared. Thanks! Have long lived by "an apple a day", especially when teaching. An apple was usually all I had time for at lunch!!! Onions, garlic, and ginger - love all three here, especially caramelized onions and ginger. Will try the recipe. And lastly, I'm still giggling about Dear Kitten. Cute!
Fun post! Have a great day. Central Texas had a soaking rain during the night so we are wet and happy.

  11. I think eating one or two apples might also keep the colonoscopy away too. Love the Dear Kitten video, and the mini dachshund pic is adorable. What a sweet library you have. And I agree with you on Jordan Spieth.

  12. I love your answers! Yes, Oprah would be fascinating - and Jordan handled himself well at the 'green jacket ceremony' - it's always so stiff (the ceremony not the jacket) and awkward! I read your colonoscopy post and I'm happy for you! MY first try I was not 'clean enough' and refused. My second attempt was last month and I got a major migraine and never made it there. I think I will wait a long, long time til my 3rd time. Although, it should be a 'charm'...right!?!

  13. That library is so cute and quaint! That's exactly what I imagine all the neighborhoods look like in the North East.
We're big Jordan Spieth fans here, too. We saw him play at the Byron Nelson a few years ago as a High Schooler & even then he was mature & humble.

  14. The onion dip looks delicious...I am not a raw onion fan also...can take or leave ginger...mostly leave as far as garlic is concerned as long as I have had my medication I am good to go. Love the library photo...so New England.

  15. Hi Katie
Im hoping I can get my words to post tonight as I tried to comment on Sunday.. I was worried for your doctor visit, sounded very unpleasant. I hope you are feeling better now my dear friend?
I too, would adore a white garden.. like the one at Sissinghurst and curiously the book I am reading is a compilation of the original newspaper columns of Vita Sackville-West called 'In your garden' it is very poetic, beautiful
I watched the Masters which is always wonderful, and I do agree with you that Jordan Spieth is the most charming, gracious young man, a great sportsman. The English golfing commentators were praising him for this early on in the tournament. Im sure the chap who won, Danny, is still very surprised
Love the picture of your library, it is so pretty
    Love to you my dear
