Hodgepodge

Hello dear friends.  If it's Wednesday, it time to join Joyce over at From This Side of the Pond for Hodgepodge.  I look forward to reading Joyce's questions and other bloggers' answers every week.

1.  'In like a lion, out like a lamb'... does the first part of this saying describing March weather ring true?

A picture is worth a thousand words.

2.  March 4th is National Grammar Day.  What common grammatical error bothers you the most?

I have two pet peeves:

Lose vs. loose

your vs. you're

3.  William Arthur Ward says - "The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.  Which are you?

I admit it.
I try my hardest not to be.
I am a pessimist.

Thank goodness the Mister is an eternal optimist, so we balance each other out.

4.  What's something you need to 'march forth and conquer' this month?

I need to get all the dam ice dam damage fixed.

Before our 2 Easter house guests arrive.

5.  An ongoing debate around here... do you dust first, then vacuum or vacuum first, then dust?  If the two routine chores, which do you dislike the least?  How's that for wording?

6.  According to thrillist.com, the ten most photographed sites in the USA are:  Cinderella's Castle in Orlando, Southernmost House in Key West, FL, The Space Needle in Seattle,  The Site of the Boston Massacre in Boston, The Bellagio Lake/fountains in Las Vegas, The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, Coit Tower in San Francisco, The Art Institute of Chicago, Niagra Falls, and snagging the number one spot - The Guggenheim Museum in NYC.

How many of this list have you photographed?  Which on the list would you most like to photograph?

I could not find a picture of Cinderella's castle, but while I was looking, I found these.

"Is this what you mean by stranger danger?"

"Is he gonna eat us?"

"I'm NOT going back to another character breakfast!"

7. Fifty years ago Monday (March 2, 1965) The Sound of Music premiered at the Rivoloi Theatre in NYC.  Have you seen the film?  Do you own a copy?  On a scale of 1-10, how much do you love it (or not)?  10=best movie ever.  If you're a fan, what's you favorite scene or song from the movie?

I love the movie The Sound of Music.  I can safely say that I know every song by heart.

My favorite scene is "So long, farewell."

I even saw the stage version a hundred years ago with "I Dream of Jeannie."

8.  Insert you own random thought here.

I don't get it.
How can one dress literally take over the entire Internet in a matter of hours?

What's your random thought?

The Mister and I bought new beds for Chowdah and Chili this weekend.  Chili insists on sleeping on the bigger one.

And we have learned one thing since adopting Chili...
What ever Chili wants, Chili gets...

  1. I saw "The Sound of Music" on Broadway many years ago. Barbara Eden was not Maria though... is that the part she played? Hmmm. I don't see her in that role! From the Jeannie to the nun....?

  2. I think the whole dress thing illustrates how very much we want a distraction from all the serious, heavy, slightly scary things going on in the world. It's gold and white btw : ) Oh the ice damming! Yikes! Our house is on the market, and we are praying we don't see that here. Our gutters look like yours so it's probably just a matter of time. We've got rain today and weirdly warm-ish (35 degrees) temps, so there will be melting which is when it gets tricky. Course more snow in tomorrow's forecast so all the melt will re-freeze. Good luck with your repairs!

  3. Oh no the dress, the dress...just when I am trying to get it out of my mind lol. I cannot get over the ice, so sorry! Looks like you are drowning in snow! We are getting more tonight/tomorrow, sure hope you are not on this path too.

Love these fun random questions, always a great way to start my morning!

  4. Fun facts. That was crazy about the dress thing..It almost made me loooose (lose) my mind....lol..YOUR (you're welcome). Those are some of my pet peeves, too...and Their/There/They're and It/It's....lol Should I go on?
You gotta a whole lotta snow there. More than we have this year which is very unusual.
Have a good day- Hope Chili doesn't want to use your computer later. xoDiana

  5. Your house is so beautiful, even more beautiful with all the snow. Sorry about your ice damage though. I like your answer for #2, but shouldn't it be "ensure" not "insure"? I thought the same thing about a dress taking over the internet!

  6. Dust first, then vacuum in case any dust may fall to the floor. And I'd rather dust and vacuum 10 times a day than do laundry, although singing songs from my "10-rated" movie, The Sound of Music helps the time fly by!

  7. o An instant smile: photos of my kids with Disney characters.
o Grammar pet peeve: using an adjective instead of an adverb (dice the onions fine vs. dice the onions finely).
o The worst-case scenario constantly hovers in the back of my mind, whereas even a potential hiccup never occurs to my husband, which probably makes us a good match.

  8. That loose/lose thing drives me insane. My pet peeve at the moment is that my computer keeps jumping around when I am typing. :(

  11. The Sound of Music is my #1 favorite movie....I especially love singing "so long, farewell" every Friday to my students...they keep coming back so I must be pretty good. Have a great rest of week.

  12. Seeing your ice dam damage makes me want to cry. I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. I have two grammar pet peeves--you versus I and fewer vs. less. You definitely need less snow and fewer ice dams! We're expecting 4-8 inches tomorrow. I'm guessing you might break snow records tomorrow.

  13. Yikes that's a lot of snow! My sister and I were just talking about seeing The Sound of Music for the first time on Easter with our parents and siblings. How can it be that long ago??? Chili and Chowdah are so cute. I wonder what he's thinking when she does that. Even with your damn ice dam damage your house is still gorgeous!!

  14. Good luck with the repairs. My brand new roof leaked again this week with the deluge of heavy rain we have had here and so I feel your pain! Love those Disney photos and am sure I have some to match them. Have a great day!

  15. Hi. Just recently found your blog and am enjoying it and your dry sense of humor greatly-AND your house is beautiful!! Did anyone else notice that the second sign under your "grammar post" actually has two errors (at least I think it does)? Shouldn't it read "Please ENsure you wash your hands"? LOL! I am in Michigan and feel like this winter will never end as well. Just think how grateful we'll be when warm weather finally makes an appearance, right?

  17. I always love your Hodgepodge. I just cannot get over your snow…that would make me a pessimist for sure. We had a few days of sleet and snow and we all complained…no more! Just love seeing snippets of your gorgeous home - so pretty in the snow, but know you are so ready for Spring!!

  18. Oh my, that dreaded dress. #1 and I had a great debate going on while waiting to catch our flight to Texas this past weekend. And, I literally gasped and had to do a double take. Your #1 in the first Disney picture looks just like my #2!!!! Must be the cute wedge haircut and the big red bow! LOL

  21. I have always wanted to post that "A LOT" is not one word and should never. not. ever. be written as alot. A person would never write alittle, so why do they write alot? On another note, I love your hodge podge and am glad to see other people's minds run a little off circuit.

  22. The day that the whole dress thing burst on the scene I told my daughter that I couldn't understand it. It's so ridiculous, I said, why all this talk about a stupid dress. Then she told me that she saw it as white and gold. What?!?!?! Since then I have discovered that if I scroll the picture of the dress (like the one in your post), it comes into view as white and gold then my eyes adjust to it being black and blue. Double what?!?!?! I find that fascinating. Or at least I did until the next episode of RHOBH came on and now I'm focused on just how evil Kim and Brandi are. Moving on...
