Easter Hodgepodge

Good morning, dear friends.  How is your week going?  Mine is coming along well.  Today I am home alone.  No workers.  Such a good feeling.  One is coming back tomorrow, though.

If it's Wednesday, it's time for Hodgepodge.

1.  This coming weekend is Palm Sunday, which marks the beginning of Holy Week.  Do you celebrate Easter in your home?  What was your favorite Easter tradition as a child?

Yes, we do celebrate Easter in our home.  One of my favorite traditions is finding, and then later in life, hiding, the Easter baskets.  When the girls were young, and we lived in Florida, the Easter Bunny surprised them with a playhouse.  According to them, no Easter has ever lived up to that one.

Another pre-Easter tradition involved taking pictures of the girls in their dresses so that I could include them in Easter cards.  This practice could take anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days, depending upon the temperament of my subjects.

This picture, in particular, was taken when I threatened to eat all of their candy if they did not give me a smile.

2.  George Weinberg is quoted as saying, 'Hope never abandons you, you abandon it.'  Agree or disagree?  Share your own thoughts on the word hope.

After watching my #2 battle two health challenges, hope and a whole lot of prayer was all we had for a time.
I'm a strong believer in both.

3.Weigh in with a yay or nay on the traditional Easter candies.  A solid milk chocolate bunny?  Cadbury Creme Eggs?  Peeps?  Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs?  Jellybeans?  Coconut cream Eggs?  Of the candies listed, which one would you most like to find in your Easter basket?

My two favorites.
I am much better if I don't take a bite because once I start, I can't stop.

You could bury me in Peeps and jelly beans and I wouldn't sneak a bite.

4.  When did you last feel 'like a kid in a candy store?'

Every time I walk into one of these stores.

5.  What's something you know you do differently than most people?  Does it bother other people?

The only thing that comes to mind is the fact that I have to sit in the best seat in the house in the movie theater.  In order to accomplish this somewhat tedious task, we need to arrive at least 40 minutes before the movie begins.

This practice used to bother the Mister, but after 25 years of pure delirious euphoria being married to moi, this is the least of  his gripes.

6.  Palm Springs, CA, Palm Beach FL, or the Palmetto State... of the three mentioned, which sunny spot would you like to visit right now?  Which have you visited at one time or another?

I would like to visit Palm Springs because I have never been.  My bff, Kate the Great, visits every year and tells me it has great shopping and a fabulous flea market that features stellar star gazing.  Shopping AND movie stars??  Helloooo Paradise!

We have been to Palm Beach many times because we lived in Boca for a few years.  It also has great shops, fabulous restaurants, and great people watching.

7.  If you could change the length of a day, would you lengthen it or shorten it?  Tell us why.

That would depend on what I am doing on that day.

Some days I want to be over as soon as possible.

And some days I would want to last forever!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

In the spirit of Holy Week coming upon us, I wanted to say that I feel that Pope Francis is the best thing that has happened to the Catholic Church in a very long time.

Yesterday, the Pope was credited with performing his first miracle.  In his infamous humility, He proclaimed it was only half of a miracle.
Gotta love this guy.

Happy Wednesday!

  1. Home Goods is a fun store. You can always find something in there. You sure do get to the movies early!

  2. I'm with you on the early arrival at the movies...if I don't get there early enough, I embarrass my husband by grilling the ticket seller on how many people are already in the theater. If it is even a little full, I don't buy a ticket. I'd rather wait until I can pick a good seat. My main issue is I don't want a person next to me because, some how, I always end up with a cra-cra next to me or someone with a picnic basket full-o-treats making noise with wrappers and such!

  3. Our newest movie theater offers reserved seating, and I love it. You can choose your seat and see how crowded the theater will be. I completely agree about the Pope. We visited Rome this summer, and the people seemed energized by the new attitude in the Vatican. It is a refreshing change.

  6. I just love the photos of my own childhood Easter Sunday pictures, and also those of my girls. Do little girls still want hats? Mine did back in the 90's, but I don't see them so much now. Peeps don't tempt me, but if a bowl of jellybellies is set before me I will indulge. Hope it's warming up where you are. Still way too cold here, but it looks like we might get a taste of spring weather next week.

  7. We used to hide our girls' Easter baskets, too...always made the 'hunt' much more fun. The pics. of your girls...priceless! I'm with you...Peeps and Jelly Beans, no thanks.

  8. Good thoughts from you as always, and the girl's photo cracks me up. They really should meet my sons, if they like 18 and 15 year old guys.

  10. I loved dressing up for Easter as a young girl with frills, hats, gloves, and purses(I guess that dates me, huh) Now our family gathers at the beach as it is one time that all the children can get there. I do not like chocolate, call me crazy, but I do love a good jellybean. Those pictures of your girls are precious!

  11. Dear Katie, I don't comment very-much but your blog is by far my favorite...you never fail to put a smile on my face:) I couldn't agree more with your feelings regarding Pope Francis ~ what a kind, wonderful man and exactly what the Catholic Church needs. He really DOES 'get it'. Thank you for sharing your amazing, self-deprecating humor with those of us 'of-a-certain-age' who are beyond the typical 'Mommy Blog'.

  13. Home Goods, the best for my mental health...not so good for overall wealth. As a Catholic, the thing I remember the most was Palm Sunday...I loved getting my new palm, but dreaded the length of the Mass and the participatory nature of the Gospel during this Mass. Still have fond memories of the new Easter clothes or at least new to me since my family thrived on hand-me-downs...adorable photos of your girls.

  14. You shared so many fun things in this post! I love Reese's Eggs, Home Goods and Perdido Key, Florida. The Easter pictures are darling! I remember new dresses, hats and gloves for Easter. My Dad always got Mother and me a corsage. Thanks for sharing so many interesting things! I also appreciate your kind comment on my blog a few days ago. My Dad has been in the hospital, so I'm late thanking you.

  15. Curious to know what is the BEST seat in the house? Clearly I’ve never occupied it as I have a phobia about being on the aisle - in movie theaters and airplanes - in the highly likely event I'll need to use the powder room. Generally, if I’m on the aisle I won’t need to get up, however, if I’m NOT on the aisle I will need to get up at least three times and cause myself anxiety fits about climbing over others to get out. Excuse me, excuse me, sorry, oops, excuse me . . . :-(

    1. My favorite seat is dead center in the middle of the theater. As far as using the ladies room goes, I use it before the movie starts. Can't say the same for the Mister, tho.

  16. Aisles for me too. Please!!! Left "Bunny" on our daughter's bed one long ago Easter. She is now 36, married with two kids. She has travelled more than most people travel in two lifetimes and Bunny still goes along for the ride. I think I wish Bunny could talk...love your answer about hope. And prayer.

  17. So hear you on the Pope...he is incredible! You had me laughing at the peeps and jelly beans comment, me too! No thanks, pass the chocolate and peanut butter on though:)
Adorable picture of the girls...so cute!

  18. The only way I will eat a peep is if it is stale! I know, that is gross! I am with you on the peanut butter egg though. Love the adorable pictures of your girls.

  19. Pope Francis is truly a gift from God. Talk about someone who embodies and proclaims the true spirit of "As I have loved you, so must you love one another." It's as simple as that.
I've been to Palm Springs once and the only celebrity I saw was Stedman Graham at the driving range of a golf course. I clearly need to hang out at the flea market instead.
Love the pictures of the girls in their pink dresses and priceless expressions!

  20. Solid chocolate bunnies - Definitely! Red and black (only) jelly beans - Yum!! Reese's peanut butter eggs - it's just not Easter without them! Best Easter memories - hiding Hershey's chocolate (foil-wrapped) eggs in Grandma's back yard, over and over and over, until they start to get a little melty, then it's time to eat them!
