Hodgepodge

If it's Wednesday, it's time for Hodgepodge.  I am really enjoying this link up.   Joyce from From This Side of the the Pond writes wonderful questions.  Stop over and read her answers as well as plenty of other fun bloggers.

1.  Have you ever written a love letter?  Have you written one recently?  Had one written to you?  Did you keep it?

During the first year and a half of our marriage, the Mister would travel during the week and come home on weekends.  When he was away, we would send each other romantic cards via snail mail because there were no computers.   I kept every one of them.  Not sure he can say the same...

2.  What's a movie that ends in a way that you especially love?

Without a doubt, my favorite ending of all time.

3.  Something that makes your heart sing?  I mean something besides your children that makes your heart sing.

If you would have asked me this a month ago, this would never have entered my mind.  Now the sound of a snowplow makes my heart sing because it represents one step closer to freedom.

4.  What's the last event you had to attend, phone call you had to make, routine task you needed to complete, or meal that you had to prepare, that you did do, but only half-heartedly?

This morning, when I tackled my workout routine.

5.  Tuna fish salad - yay or blech?  If you say yay, how do you like your tuna salad prepared?  Hey, this is Hodgepodge, right?

I feel that there are three food items that no restaurant makes the same:  tuna fish, tiramisu and tortilla soup.  I love tuna fish mixed with a dab of mayo and chopped celery served on whole wheat toast, topped with fresh lettuce, a slice of beefy tomato and a wedge of pickle on the side.  Waiters love me.

As far as tortilla soup and tiramisu are concerned, I will share that at another time.  I need to create some mystery between us so you'll stay interested.

6.  What's something you know by heart?

I know every song on Carol King's album, Tapestry, by heart.  The reason I know this is because my mother got the 8 track of Tapestry stuck into the tape deck in her ten year old Country Squire station wagon.  Or as I referred to it - my "hunk magnet."

7.  In the spirit of Valentines Day, what two or three word phrase would you write on a conversation heart for someone you love.  That person could be a spouse, child, parent, cousin, bestee... anyone at all whom you love.

The Mister would be more than delighted if he received either one of these hearts.   He'd be tickled pink if I gave him both.
I probably won't though, because I like to play hard to get.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I love to hear from my readers and try to answer all of their e-mails.  Occasionally, I don't get their e-mail addresses and I feel awful that I can't respond.  So if you have a question, comment, or dirty joke for me, please remember to include your e-mail address.

Angela from Austin - send me your email and I will be happy to send along the info that you requested.
P.S.  Go Horned Frogs!

Happy Hump Day!

  1. We are big fans of My Best Friend's Wedding here too. I love the ending, but our favorite scene is the sing along in the restaurant. Classic! We love us a snow plow here too. What a winter!

  5. Love the randomness of these questions and now i am craving tuna fish on a crisp cracker for some odd reason! Loved My Best Friends Wedding, aren't the "old" movies simply the best??? They just don't make them like they used to, when I do go to the movies and see all the previews about all the crazy special effects and futuristic flicks...it totally bores me. No thanks.
The comment about the snowplow was too funny.....sad but true:)

  6. I'm about to tackle my exercise routine, too! The treadmill is calling my name...there is no denying it any longer. Please, don't send any of that snow down my way!

  7. The sound of the snow plow--I'm sure it's the only unique answer in the Hodgepodge for that question, but that roar-scrape-rumble sound makes my heart sing, too.

  10. Hi! Hey - I enjoyed your answers and wit. I also LOVE "Tapestry" and I remember my (older) sister having the 8 track in her car. It wasn't stuck in there; she just loved it and played it a lot. Good lord, we southerners are seeing ALL that snow on TV, and we are feeling your pain this winter. You ready to move south?

  11. I love those hearts! We don't have a dog, but we sometimes have remote-wars.

  12. Once again Katie, you had me laughing out loud at this post! LOVE Carole King and Tapestry! How funny that it was stuck in your mom's 8 track in the Hunk Magnet!! I plan to see Beautiful the Carole King Musical on Broadway this summer! Can't wait! I also love My Best Friend's Wedding! Oh.my.word..how about the gigantic cell phone Julia Roberts pulls out of her purse! Here's wishing for NO MORE SNOW up there! Keep warm! Jean

  13. You will LOVE Beautiful -- you must see it if you haven't, Katie! As for best movie ending, I have to go with Gone with the Wind:

"I can't let him go. I can't. There must be some way to bring him back. Oh I can't think about this now! I'll go crazy if I do! I'll think about it tomorrow." She closes the door. "But I must think about it. I must think about it. What is there to do?"

She falls forward onto the ascending stairs.

    "What is there that matters?"

Crestfallen, she stops and then resourcefully and determinedly finds her true direction in the final lines of the film. She was never the type to admit defeat - so she refuses to acknowledge defeat in Rhett's rejection of her. Ghost-like voices of important men from her past remind her of the source of her strength in the soil of Tara. She hears her father Gerald: "Land's the only thing that matters, it's the only thing that lasts." Ashley: "Something you love better than me, though you may not know it. Tara." And Rhett: "It's from this you get your strength, the red earth of Tara." Each speech is repeated with increasing tempo and volume. Scarlett realizes that even if she doesn't get Rhett back, she can always return to the land - to Tara, to soak up its strength.

"Tara! Home. I'll go home, and I'll think of some way to get him back! After all, tomorrow is another day!"

The camera close-up of her tear-stained face slowly dissolves into an earlier shot, a long view of Scarlett standing alone under the gnarled tree with Tara in the background - a heroic silhouette not admitting defeat.

  16. I've had Carole King's "Tapestry" on vinyl, 8-track, cassette, CD, and now have the entire thing on my iPod. I've tortured high school carpool riders, karaoke bar patrons, my children, an ex-husband, and my current spousal unit by singing loudly to every song. Just as soon as the grandchildren stop torturing me with the "My Little Pony" song I intend to annoy them with it, too. The circle will be complete.

  21. You never cease to crack me up. After the last few weeks, I'm with you, the sound of a snow plow conjures up the reverse of PTSD. More like THFS - Thank Heavens For Snowplows! Stay warm and safe!

  23. Tuna fish should include minced granny smith apples, mayo, dill pickles chopped, chopped white onion and sourdough or whole wheat bread. My best friend and I had these everyday together the summer I was 12. I brought the bottles of coke and she always had tuna at her house. We are well past that Summer of '62, but every time I visit my home town and run into her (she's my mother's neighbor) we spend hours together laughing about our childhood and our obsession with tuna sandwiches that Summer.
