The Halls Have Been Decked

Hello dear friends.  Here are a few pics of our holiday decorations. It was an interesting experience this year.  One reason for that is that I have not decked the halls in three years.  Two years ago, we went on a cruise and last year we moved into the house.  It was kind of fun and a little overwhelming pillaging through the red and green containers.

This year's theme is less is more.  Or otherwise, Mom is a big ol' lazy pants.

I put a few of the kitchen pics on an earlier post.  If you missed them, it's your lucky day.  Here they are again.

I love these wreaths so much.  What are your thoughts about keeping them up all year round?

I love my Enchanted Home bell jars and planter!
By the way... Tina has an incredible give away from Homegoods going on right now.  Please don't enter - I want to win it!!

I got this cute lavender tree at Whole Goods.  I actually kept it alive for a whole ten days.  RIP lavender tree.

We always get an artificial tree.  I would like to tell you the reason is because we have allergies.  But the real reason is Felix Unger the Mister does not like to see pine needles on the floor.

I haven't done a room reveal post on the den because it is hard to photograph.  The room is long and doesn't look right in photos.  The former owners had this room painted in a light color with dark stained woodwork.   We changed the paint and woodwork color and had the doors made for the bookcases.  There's also a fireplace but I didn't take a photo because I haven't done the mantel yet.  Don't judge me - I still have nine days.

We spend most of our time in this room.  The Mister just loved hanging these wreaths.  I'm just happy that Christmas only comes once a year!

That's it for now.  I hope you are having a wonderful week.

  2. All your wreaths are perfect and well worth the effort. I was impressed for 1 second with your rosemary tree, because I always kill them. Then, I kept reading . . .

I discovered dried herbs are very useful, if not ornamental.

  3. Hi Ms. Katie...miss u! Your home looks gorgeous!! I think the wreaths in the kitchen work as all year round décor. How lovely for you to be able to spend some quality time with your dad & #1. I think dried plants are making a comeback. I have a dried boxwood which I spray-painted green (was looking a little yellow) which I will proudly display somewhere in my home. Is Sista & her family visiting for the holidays? xoxo, Dawn

  5. Looks very festive! I usually have good luck with the rosemary trees. But not this year, maybe its just a bad year. Nice that you got to spend quality time with #1 and your father. Love Santa's helper...

  7. It is absolutely gorgeous! If I had boxwood wreaths I would love keeping them up at least until July 4th. I still have the dead magnolia leaves on my mantel and am having 20 neighbors over Saturday. If I don't get it changed out by Friday I'm going to serve white trash sliders and cheap beer to go with the décor.

  8. Love it all...now I need to get my post written. If you think you are minimal then my decorations must be in the negative numbers.

I need more hours in the day...thanks for the mention of my giveaway....enjoy your evening. I am ready for some wine!

  10. Love your tour and as many have said, less IS more! Every decoration gets to shine on its own. Love, love, love the boxwood wreaths and so glad the Mister thought they were worth the investment (wink wink). Am still in awe of how you've managed to bring Texas to Massachusetts and make it work! Sign of an artist!

  12. Lovely! Your home has a festively understated elegant look - which is ideal when it comes time to dismantle the holiday extravaganza. (PS: Take photos to facilitate decorating next year.)

    2. The wreaths are so pretty Katie and I agree.. they can stay up! Your home is looking very festive and I laughed when you said things aren't complete. We still have work crew coming and going (creating a never ending stream of dirt and dust) and I have JUST started my Christmas shopping. I've decided that sleeping is over-rated!

The bell jars look so pretty! My electrician went to install mine yesterday and broke one.. so I immediately emailed Tina for a replacement. I walked in from work and the installer said "I have disappointing news".. yes, story of my life these days. Anyway I have so much going right now that it didn't phase me.

Hope you are enjoying your day and the festivities of the season! xxL

  13. It all looks beautiful, Katie. I love the wreaths in the kitchen windows. I'm a really big old lazy pants this year. I plunked down one small tree, threw an old quilt on the table, and hung a wreath. In my own defense.....wait, I don't have any defense. Enjoy. xo Laura

  14. Lovely. Your home looks so warm and inviting. Each time you have a picture showing your kitchen curtains, I just swoon. Do you know the pattern/manufacturer? Happy Holidays and a Safe and Happy New Year.

  15. We like your decorating philosophy as we applied the same one this year to our home! Those wreaths are so sweet that we'd keep them up until at least Valentine's day and pop a red rose on them to celebrate. Then they would have to come down...

  17. I'll be daydreaming about your pretty home, with the perfect wreaths hanging (at an even level - I noticed) in all of your windows (which should stay year round). Those belljars are beautiful, too. I have so enjoyed all of your "home tour" pictures!

  18. Oh my goodness...your home looks gorgeous! I was awake in the middle of the night thinking about your pretty wreaths everywhere and how I would like to do that in my house...but then this morning I looked at my to do list and decided that wreaths on every window would have to wait until next year. You are an inspiration, my dear! xoxo
